The Aelfa Syllabus - Part Time and Full Time Acting & Performing Arts Courses

1 Year Foundation in Acting & Performance

1 Year Course (3 Terms)

The aim of the 1 Year Foundation in Acting and Performance is to expose students to ‘The Craft’ - developing the skills you will need in order to become a professional performer. 1 Year Foundation in Acting and Performance students will study all subject areas of performing arts, in order to fill their ‘Performers Toolbox’, with a strong focus on acting technique.

2 Year Advanced Acting and Performance

2 Year Course (6 Terms)

The aim of  the 2 Year Advanced Acting and Performance course is to ground and extend the student’s stage craft. The courses involves the syllabus from the foundation course in year 1 and moves to more advanced studies in year 2. Students will participate in regular stage performances as well as studying acting for screen and producing their own short film. These course components happen alongside continued technique classes and company projects. This course is qualified with a Level 6 Diploma, equivalent to a BA Hons in Acting.

Industry Preparation Course

Part-Time Intensive Acting & Industry (2 Terms)

This part-time intensive acting and industry preparation course is designed to take those how find themselves ready to enter the industry to the next level. The course focuses on:

  • Audition Technique
  • Headshots
  • Showreels
  • Online Profiles
  • Acting Techniques
  • Industry Showcase


Masters ‘Fellowship’ in Acting or Directing

(Post-Graduate Study)

This is a post-grad course suitable for anyone who has had a traditional university education in a performance subject and wishes to focus time on developing their professional acting or directing skills whilst gaining a level 7 qualification - equivalent to a masters degree.

Fellowship students work as an integral part of the Aelfa Theatrical Company and shape their craft alongside Foundation and Advanced acting and performance students. However, Fellowship students are required to apply a deeper level of analysis of the process and will also take leadership on specific company performance projects.

Dance Foundation Course (Degree Level 4)

This Foundation in Dance course is designed to expose the aspiring dancer to all areas of the professional dance training with the aim of developing their professional potential.  Students are coached within the Aelfa Academy of Dramatic Arts, through a company style approach, with classes delivered by Industry Dance Experts.  The Foundation in Dance qualification is equivalent to an HNC.


(Targeted at Students with a HNC/HND/Level 4 Diploma in a Performance subject)

It is common these days for higher education establishments such as drama/dance colleges and universities to offer aspiring performers courses that do not reach a full degree level 6 qualification. Aelfa Academy of Dramatic Arts can offer those wanting to achieve a full degree level 6 qualification with the opportunity to Top-Up in  1 Year by joining the 2nd year of the advanced acting and performance course.
